ThAt GuY dAnIeL - CAPTIVITY Reloadedπ«
Miss me? I'm backπ. Hope you have done last week's assignment on assessing yourself
with Daniel's Criteria for a Top Notch Position in Nebuchadnezzar’s government.
You may be lacking a fewπ
, or may be allπ. But no need to cryπ
because GRACE is available. Stick in wholeheartedly to the ThAt GuY
dAnIeL series and you'll have direction in Jesus name ππΏ.
Let's box onππΏ. It will interest you to note that Daniel and his 3
Jewish friends passed the first testπ. But
there was a second test that came up immediately. (GOD WILL SURELY HAVE SOME
TESTS FOR YOU IN LIFE). King Nebuchadnezzar was quite smartπ. He renamed Daniel and his 3 friends. Daniel was now called
Belteshazzar meaning "Bel, protect his life". Bel also called Marduk,
was the chief Babylonian god. He did same for Daniel's comrades. This was one
of the King's attempt to change the religious loyalty of these young men from
Judah's God to Babylon's gods.
So the second test
involved eating the King's Delicacies.π the
King wanted them to forget Judah-their homeπ, their
culture and finally their Godπ¨, and he wanted them to rather focus on
his new gods and the Babylonian life. (I'm sure the Babylonian life can be likened
to the worldly lifeπ). So King Nebuchadnezzar decided to
influence them through change of names and also FOOD & WINEπ·π€ too. I'm sure the wine was Coca-Colaπ¬.
I'm quite sure the
King's delicacies which included a daily ration of food and wine from his own
kitchens was highly-ratedππΏ. I doubt the King ate
breadcrumbs and water for breakfast. I'm sure he had some "Golden fried
shrimps with some non-alcoholic grape juice with a touch of fruits. π.π Stop getting hungry already. π
This was to be
done for 3 years alongside training them before they would be interviewed for
Royal Service in the Palace.
Daniel and
"co" stood out and resolved not to eat this food, either because it
was forbidden by his Jewish law such as pork as we see in Leviticus 11 or
because he "thought far" to see that eating these exorbitant
delicacies will build a dependency barrier around him and his friends on Nebuchadnezzar
and his gods.π
Even though Daniel
was in a culture that didn't honour God he still REMEMBERED his God. Daniel 1:8
says that Daniel PURPOSED in his heart that he will not DEFILE himself with the
King's Delicacies.
Wowπ¨. If it was you, can you uphold your God and resist the forces of
the opposition that are hitting strongly on your principles and valuesπ
?
You might be going
through the same situation as Daniel. I'm quite sure you see similarities of
Daniel's test in your "Life Test" in maybe your teen/ young-adult
life, marriage, school (*cheating in exams) your workplaces etc.
BUT BE LIKE DANIEL
WHO DETERMINED TO DEVOTE HIMSELF TO GOD'S PRINCIPLES IN THE WORST OF
SITUATIONS.
Daniel:
1) Made up his
mind
2) Took initiative
3) Prevailed
We too are often
assaulted by pressures to compromise our standards and live more like the world
around us. But stand like Daniel we shall prevail.
We'll go deeper in
the next episode.
You can do it. You
can make it. Is it difficult-"YES". Has it been done
before-"YES". Can you also prevail-"YES". Be the salt and
light of the world seeya.πππΏππΏππΏ
